Century old Olive tree Festival

Elia’s culture, which is a unique blend of Mediterranean civilization, has been intricately woven into the region’s centuries-long, amicable coexistence with the Mediterranean. In virtually every Neolithic settlement in the eastern Mediterranean, including Cyprus, the olive coexists with the human. Because of their age or physical attributes, monumental olive trees are so expected. The village of Paramali, a former royal estate during the Venetian era, is endowed with an abundance of centuries-old olive trees that serve as a point of reference and cultural legacy. These trees also serve as an inspiration for the festival that will honor them and highlight their significance. Not only is olive oil a staple of the Mediterranean diet, but it was also the world’s first medicine and cosmetic. Under the auspices of Dr. Maria Panagiotou, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, the Centennial Olive Festival begins solemnly at 11.00 and features 25 exhibitors, 4 kid-friendly experiential workshops, a tasting of olive oil, delectable local cuisine, and a music program featuring dances and Vasiliki Hatziadamou at 17.00.
